Artist Statement

Beth Williams is a fashion designer and multi-disciplinary artist who specialises in living, bio and sustainable natural textiles. Their practice centres around their experience of an inaccessible world, and explores the relationship between human and environmental sustainability. Their practice grow alongside them, their work collaborating with them to question the status quo. Their aim is to reconnect their audience to nature by exploring innovative and traditional materials and techniques, with the hopes of shifting ideas around the consumption of fashion and textiles.

 

Biography

Beth has a background in fashion, having studied BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Knitwear at Central Saint Martins where they fell in love with exploring and working with sustainable materials; and worked with brands like Puma and NIO. They moved on to study Fashion MA at Royal College of Art where they began working with biomaterials, in particular living textiles.

Since graduating in 2023 they have continued to develop their work with living and bio materials, whilst based between West Sussex and London, gaining acclaim both in the UK and internationally. Having recently been published in The Lissome, InStyle MX, ARTS HELP and Textiel Plus. Their biomaterials have been shown throughout the UK from Kew Gardens to the Sussex Contemporary to locally in Crawley. As well as abroad, most recently in Spain with Fashion Revolution and at the Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles, USA.
